The 19:40 from Port Ashby was the last ferry of the night. Thirty-five minutes later, property developer Gideon Marsh was found dead in the aft lounge, and every one of the five passengers around him had a reason to want him gone. The Last Ferry is a small, self-contained detective case: a ferry timetable, a ticket stub, the passenger manifest, the victim's text messages and a torn letter, plus six puzzles that lock together like a chain. Each answer opens the next, and the last one asks you to name the killer and explain how it was done. No internet, no cutting, no outside knowledge. Print it or play it on a tablet.

The Last Ferry is a printable murder mystery in the style of a small escape room. You get a short case file: who died, where, and who was on board. Then you get five pieces of evidence exactly as the investigators found them, and six puzzles that use nothing but those documents.
The puzzles chain together. Puzzle 1 tells you which sailing the victim took. That time unlocks the code on his phone in Puzzle 2. The phone tells you his seat, which lets you work out where everyone sat in Puzzle 3, and so on, until Puzzle 6 asks for the final accusation: the killer and the method. Every step is fair, every answer is unique, and two hints per puzzle are waiting if you get stuck.
You can play alone with a pen and a cup of tea, as a couple, or with up to four people who each take charge of one document. It fits an evening in, a quiet train journey or a game night warm-up.

How to play
Download the zip and open the PDF for your paper size (Letter or A4). Print it single-sided, or open it on a tablet.
Read page 2 (how to play) and page 3 (the case) to meet the victim and the five suspects.
Look at the five evidence documents: timetable, ticket stub, manifest and deck log, text messages, torn letter.
Solve the six puzzles in order and write each answer in its box. You will need it for the next puzzle.
Write your final accusation, then check it against the solution page, which shows the full chain.
Questions
How long does it take?
Most players finish in 30 to 45 minutes. With hints it can be quicker; a careful solo player may take an hour.
Can I play alone?
Yes. The case was written to be solved by one person. It also works well for two to four people sharing the documents.
Do I need to print it?
No. The colour edition is made for tablets: the contents page is clickable and the margins are wide enough for a stylus. If you print, use the printer-friendly edition.
Is anything cut, folded or hidden?
No. Print single-sided and start. Nothing in the file depends on colour, so black and white printing is fine.
Is it suitable for children?
It is a cosy crime story for ages 12 and up: no blood, no violence on the page. Younger players may need help with the cipher.
Do I need any outside knowledge?
None. Every puzzle uses only what is printed in the file, and the rules of each code are explained on the page.
What if I get stuck?
There are two hints for every puzzle, and the solution page shows the whole chain of answers.
Can I play it again?
Once you know the killer the case is solved, but the file can be printed as often as you like for other players.
