Short answers to the questions we get most about our online cases, membership, printables, apps and languages.
Our cases run entirely in your browser, with no downloads needed. Each case has 7 investigation stages: read the case file dossier, study the crime scene, review witness statements, examine forensic evidence, read intercepted messages, interrogate suspects, and finally name the killer. You only get one chance to accuse, so every clue matters.
Yes. One case is free and you can play it immediately, with no sign-up or credit card required. A membership unlocks all the other cases. Browse the cases.
Yes. The cases work on any device: phone, tablet or desktop. The whole game runs in your browser, and your progress is saved automatically.
Each case takes 20 to 45 minutes to solve, depending on how thoroughly you investigate. Cases range from Easy to Hard.
No. The cases are inspired by true crime storytelling, but all cases are 100% fictional. No real people or events are referenced.
Our mystery games are designed for teens and adults (13+). The cases involve fictional murders but contain no graphic violence or disturbing imagery.
Not for the free case. You can sign in with Google or with a sign-in link sent to your email, or continue as a guest. Guest progress is saved locally on your device only and cannot be used to make purchases. You need an account to buy a membership or a printable.
A membership costs $12.49 per month or $42 per year, in US dollars. It renews automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. See pricing.
Online access to all cases in the Cases section for as long as the membership is active. It does not include printable PDF files, and it does not include purchases made in our mobile apps.
Payment is handled by Stripe on its secure checkout page. You can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. We never see or store your card number.
You can cancel at any time from the account menu on the website ("Cancel subscription"). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period: you keep access until then and you are not charged again.
No full or partial refunds are given for the current period or for unused time. If you were charged twice for the same purchase or charged after your subscription had ended, email hello@forgottenmystery.com with your account email and we will correct the error.
Printable cold case files, escape room kits, murder mystery party kits and mystery puzzle books. They are digital PDF downloads and nothing is shipped. Each one is a one-time payment, not a subscription.
You buy with a free Forgotten Mystery account. After payment the Buy button becomes a Download button on every device where you are signed in. Use the same account to download your purchases again later.
A printer and paper. Cold case files come in a full colour and a printer-friendly edition. Some escape room kits use colour in the puzzles and need a colour printer; the product page says so. Each product page lists the number of pages and how to print it.
No. Printables are sold separately as one-time purchases. Buying a printable does not give access to the online cases, and a membership does not include printables.
No. Your purchase gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to print the files for private, non-commercial use. You may not resell, share or publish them.
No. Printables are one-time digital purchases that are delivered immediately. Before payment you are asked to agree that the download starts straight away and that you lose your right of withdrawal once it has started (EU Directive 2011/83/EU, Art. 16(m)). Printable purchases are therefore not refundable. If a file is damaged, incomplete or will not open, email hello@forgottenmystery.com within 14 days and we will send you a working file. Refund Policy.
Yes. Forgotten Mystery: Murder Case is the phone version of our cold case files, on the App Store and Google Play. Purchases made in our apps are separate from the website membership.
Cold Crime: Murder Mystery (solve a murder by going through the victim's phone; all cases are free), Pairo: Questions & Card Games (a conversation card game for couples, friends and family), Liary: Fun Group Party Games (pass-the-phone party games in one app) and Truth or Dare Party Night. All of them are listed on our games page. See our games.
The site and the online cases are available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, Japanese and Korean. Each printable product page shows the other languages that printable is available in.
